New Books and Collection Development

The Boyden Library collections consist of over 85,000 items including books, periodicals, CDs, audio books, VHS tapes, DVDs, maps, and CD-ROMs. The library houses the Academy Archives, a rare book collection, and the Deerfield Authors & Publications Collection.

All members of the Deerfield Academy community are encouraged to participate in building the library collection. Prior to making a request, the Online Catalog should be checked so that requests are not submitted for materials already owned. Forms for recommending books, authors, CD's, videos, and DVD's are available at the Circulation Desk. Requests can also be made electonically with an online form or with the Suggest a Purchase feature of the catalog.

Library staff utilize various collection development resources and strategies to add new materials to the collection that will support the Deerfield Academy curriculum and the needs of students and faculty.

The library accepts donations of materials with the understanding that if the material does not meet library selection criteria, it will be disposed of responsibly or returned to the donor.

New books are displayed on our New Books Shelf on the Main Floor so that the community has an opportunity to enjoy these new materials as soon as they are available for circulation.
