Circulation Desk

The Circulation Desk is located on the Main Floor of the library. The staff at this desk will be happy to assist you by providing a variety of services.

Books that can be checked out of the library are called "circulating" books and are located in the Circulating Collection. Students must present their Greer card to check out library materials. Circulation staff check out materials using our electronic circulation system.

Students may borrow materials for one month. Faculty may borrow materials for three months. Videos and DVDs circulate for 7 days for all patrons. New books circulate for one month for all patrons. Periodicals, except the current issue, circulate for one week. Most items may be renewed once. Library patrons may renew their materials online. Overdue fines are $ .10 per day and $1 per day for DVDs, videos, overnight reserves, and Interlibrary Loan materials.

If a book is returned past the due date, fines are collected at this desk. Students can elect to pay fines using their Greer card, but fines paid in cash are reduced by half. We expect the prompt return of library materials so that they are available for use by the entire Deerfield Academy community. Actions that unfairly limit access to library resources, such as failure to return materials, are considered a serious breach of academic integrity (see DA to Z).

The Circulation Desk is also the place to sign up for a group study room in order to work on a project with fellow students. Because the library is a place for quiet study, anyone wishing to confer with others should arrange for one of these rooms in advance.

Faculty sign up at this desk to use our electronic and audio visual classrooms with their classes.

Copy cards for use in our copy machines are available for $6 (50 copies) here and provide a convenient alternative to using coins. The library does not have a color printer or copier. A color printer is available in the Help Desk area in Information Technology Services.

Reserve materials placed in the library by faculty members for use by specific classes are located at the Circulation Desk. Some materials must be used in the library so that they are always available to students; others may be checked out for three hours or one day.
