Welcome to the
Frank L. & Helen Childs Boyden Library

The Deerfield Academy library is named in honor of Frank L. Boyden, headmaster of the Academy from 1902-1968 and his wife, Helen Childs Boyden, a chemistry and math teacher. The library opened in 1968, the year that Mr. Boyden retired.

The Boyden Library supports the intellectual growth, personal exploration and creative opportunities offered Deerfield Academy students by providing a broad-based collection of more than 85,000 items, access to current online resources, comfortable spaces for individual or group study, and a staff eager to assist students.

This Virtual Tour is an introduction to the resources and services available in the library.

Mr. Boyden traveled around the Deerfield Academy campus and Deerfield in an open buggy rather than an automobile to get to know the members of both communities better. The destinations on this tour are called "buggy stops" in memory of Mr. Boyden's spirit of community.
