Computers & Equipment

Computers

The library provides 10 computer terminals on the Main Floor. Access to the online catalog, the research databases, the Internet, and various software programs, including word processing, is available on these computers.

The Computer Lab is located in AV2 on the Lower Level and is available for use during the hours the library is open. There are 8 computers in the lab and 16 seats.

  • A telephone is available so that students/faculty/staff can call the Circulation Desk if problems occur.
  • All computers have special academic software, including Photoshop Elements & Premier, Impact, Astronomy software, Math & Science software, Office 07, & File Maker Pro 10.
  • The Lab is closed for student use during IT staff/faculty training, Library and class instruction.
  • Library AV2 HP4250n is the name of the printer

Computers dedicated exclusively to the online catalog are available on each floor of the library.

Wireless access is available throughout the library. Students should bring their personal laptops to the library for use in group study rooms or during busy periods when the library terminals are likely to be in high demand.

Scanning Stations

These stations are located on the main floor behind the stairs and glass partition. Library staff are available for assistance to assist with use of the equipment or software.

  • Sibelius (music software), and Adobe Photoshop CS are installed on the computers. 
  • Both stations scan documents and pictures. 
  • One also scans single slides and groups of slides.
  • Directions are next to the stations.

Copying & Printing

The library provides one MFD machine [color and black/white - printer, copier, scanner, and fax machine].

A laser printer is available in AV2 for student use with the computers provided in the library.

Microfilm & Microfiche Reader/Printers

Some periodical titles are available in microfilm or microfiche format so reader/printers are provided for access to this information. Consult the Periodical List to determine which publications are available in this format. Library staff are available to assist with use of this equipment.

Audio-Visual Equipment

Video and DVD players are available in group study rooms and electronic classrooms. Projection equipment is available in the electronic classrooms.

Requests for use of audio-visual equipment outside of the library should be directed to Information Technology. Contact the Information Technology Services Help Desk at 413-774-1444.

Video Editing Stations and a Dubbing Station

Two video editing stations and a dubbing station are located in three double carrels on the Lower Level. The carrels are locked when not in use. The key for these carrels is available at the Circulation Desk

  • The stations are labeled Video Editing Station 1 & 2 and Dubbing Station
  • Stations can be used by those who have received training in the use of the equipment.
  • Directions are available in the carrels.
  • New users should contact the Help Desk to make an appointment with Mr. Weimer to schedule training on this equipment.
