Periodical Articles on the Internet

It is possible to find the full text of periodical articles on the Internet, but it is usually more efficient to use research databases to locate articles that have already been published.

Use the advanced search capabilities of search engines to narrow your search by file format (Word document, PDF file, etc.)

Search Services

  • Some search services on the Internet provide citations for free and articles for a fee
  • Do not pay for these articles
  • After identifying a helpful citation from a search service, use Interlibrary Loan to obtain the full text of articles
  • ILL is free to students, faculty, and staff

Directories of Free Online Journals

Some electronic journals and magazines allow access to some current articles on their websites. Some do not provide the full text of their most recent issue, but do provide access to an archive of older articles.
