ABOUT THE LIBRARY |
How do I find a video or DVD?Use the Online Catalog to locate videos and DVDs in this library. The record for the item will provide the call number and its location in the library. Videos and DVDs intended primarily for entertainment are located on the Main Floor. Patrons select a title from the rack and present the empty cover or case at the Circulation Desk to check out these items. Videos and DVDs that support the curriculum are assigned a call number and integrated into the circulating collection by subject so that they can be identified along with other materials on the same subject. Audio-visual materials described in the Online Catalog with a location of "Technical Process" are not accessible on the public shelves and should be requested at the Circulation Desk by call number. Searching the Catalog Searching by title is the most direct way to search the catalog for any item. Typing To Kill a Mockingbird into the title search displays items with that title in the following formats, in addition to the book:
Click on the title for the desired format. The record for that item will provide the Location in the library, Call Number, and Status (Available or Due Date) for that item. If the exact title is unknown, use the Advanced Keyword Search. Type a word from the title in the search window. Use the Material Type drop-down menu to select DVD or VHS and click the Submit button. Use the same strategy to locate videocassettes or DVDs on a particular subject. For example, type "civil war" in the search window and limit the material type to DVD or VHS. To limit your keyword search to a particular format after completing a search, choose the Modify Search button and limit the material type to DVD or VHS. All other formats will be eliminated from search results. For additional assistance with locating videos or DVDs, contact a Reference Librarian at the Reference Desk or at (413) 774-1509 |
