Collection Development
All members of the Deerfield Academy community are encouraged to participate in building the library collection. Forms for recommending books, authors, CD's, videos, and DVD's are available at the Circulation Desk. An online Suggest A Purchase form is also available.

Library staff utilize various collection development resources and strategies to add new materials to the collection that will support the Deerfield Academy curriculum and the needs of students and faculty.

The library accepts donations of materials with the understanding that if the material does not meet library selection criteria, it will be disposed of responsibly or returned to the donor.

Interlibrary Loan
This free service for obtaining materials which the library does not own from other libraries is offered to students, faculty, and staff. Most public libraries also offer Interlibrary Loan.

After all possible sources for the book or article, including the library's catalog and research databases, have been consulted to verify that the it is not available at Deerfield, an Interlibrary Loan request form can be completed. These forms are available at the Reference Desk and should be completed with the assistance a Reference Librarian.

Patrons should allow up to two weeks for receipt of materials. The loan period is determined by the lending library. Recently published materials are often unavailable.

Quiet
The library is a place for quiet study and research. Voices must be kept low and group work should be confined to group study rooms or two person carrels.

Cell phone use in the library is prohibited. See DA to Z (p. 49) for information about cell phone use on campus.

Food and Drink
Food should be eaten outside of the library or checked at the Circulation Desk.

Only drinks in spill-proof mugs or pop-up sports bottles are permitted in the library (see acceptable containers in our lobby display case).

Patrons who bring food or drinks in inappropriate containers into the library will be asked to check these items at the Circulation Desk.

Property
It is expected that all individuals using the library will respect the beautiful environment by disposing of their litter properly and caring for library furniture and equipment.
